| Project Life Update - by Tina Woods |

Milton Saul Alvarado Sanchez and Doctor Alfredo |
In San Miguelito this May with the Williams-Sabine team, we had the
privilege of seeing one of our Project Life patients from the last two
years, Milton Saul Alvarado Sanchez. He was originally diagnosed with
severe malnutrition and then problems with his left kidney. His mother came
to thank Dr. Alfredo, pictured above with Milton, and BMDMI for helping her
child. She stated her son almost died twice, and without the help of our
Project Life program, he would not be here today. |
|
Milton is now 4 years old, thriving very well, and ran up to Dr. Alfredo to
give him a big hug. It's not every day you get to see him teary-eyed, nor
every day that we have a family of 5 walk one hour to just come say "Thank You".
I believe those are God's little gifts to us... "Well done, good and
faithful servant...Come and share your master's happiness!" Matthew 25:23
Please be in diligent prayer as two of our heart patients, Keylin Lopez (age
5) & Carla Bautista (age 12), are on the surgical waiting list to have their open
heart surgeries. |

| Never doubt that God is aware... - by Greg Vaughn, The GSCH |

At times we get things, we do not know why we got them, but later we find God provided for an upcoming need. This recently happened at the Good Shepherd Children's Home clinic when Tia Kenya was talking to nurse Nori asking how much it would be to purchase some glucose test strips for Heimy. You see Heimy has diabetes and we try to purchase her meds to help out her mother. |
|
We did have enough funds to purchase her meds in time, so I told her to check with Nori to see if they could find cheaper test strips. Nori told her she did not have any but would check direct with the drug company. As they talked the she got excited and told Kenya “Tia, God has answered this need ahead of time!” In some box from somewhere, someone had shipped in 100 urine strips to test blood sugar levels.
At the time of the call, God positioned Nori right in front of this box that had been sitting on the shelf for months, just at the time Tia Kenya called asking to see if she could find cheaper test strips. Why someone sent 100 urine blood sugar test strips here we do not know since these are used mostly in hospitals. We rejoice that at this critical time God had already provided for the need.
Never doubt that God is aware of what is needed even before it becomes a need. Things like this are proof that He loves and provides us. |

| Giving sight to the blind - by Lynda Gregg |

A month or so ago, I received a letter from Pastor Arnaldo Flores from the village of Ocotal. Now receiving letters down here is a little bit of a feat to begin with. He has to come via bus probably 4 hours to the city of Tegucigalpa and to our office and put the note in my box. I then pick it up when I am up there from Zamorano. |
|
So I was very delighted to read one. He was asking if I could come to his village to exam the eyes of the people, as many of them had problems with their vision. I was so surprised and happy at the thought of going to Ocotal with the new autorefractor and glasses. Even though this was the dream, just the thought of the possibility was overwhelming and amazing. This was going to be a reality!
We made plans for me to come up on a Monday , spend the night and leave Tuesday afternoon. Ok so I am headed out alone and will be sleeping at the house of the pastor and his family. All of these would be totally different for me. All the plans carefully made to have someone go with me failed and I headed to Teupasenti alone and would pick up the pastor for the last hour further up the mountain.
By 10:30 I was set up in our church and seeing people. That continued straight through the day until 6:00 that night w/o a break for lunch, potty or snack. The eyes of 89 people were tested on Monday. I ate a late meal with the pastor and then we sat outside and talked while the baby pigs came to eat the scraps on the floor. First time for me having pigs in the house like a dog.. Ahhh Honduras. They had given me one of their beds to sleep in. There were 8 of us sleeping in 3 rooms.
Tuesday morning we were ready a little before 8:30 and they were also…Again, never stopping to take a break or eat and the line never got smaller. I knew I needed to leave by 2:00 and had conveyed that to the pastor numerous times in order to be home by dark…Of course that didn’t happen and I pulled out from the church at 3:00 for the drive back home alone. I was able to test the eyes of 139 people in 2 days. I made glasses for some and luckily I had some negative power glasses to give some that have problems seeing distance. How blessed it is to be able to accomplish this ministry through the power of God and the donations of the people who believe in this mission and have made all of this and more possible. |
