Pastor's Conference
Thomas Herrington Bible Institute hosts Pastors Conference
On March 8-11 the Thomas Herrington Bible Institute (THBI) hosted the national pastor’s conference of BMDMI churches in Honduras. There were 168 pastors and church leaders present, representing 85 of the 120 BMDMI churches in Honduras. The conference began with a delicious meal on Monday evening followed by a worship service.

On Tuesday morning the men began 2 days of teaching led by Bros. Mel Cornillaud and Bro. Jose Hernandez of North Carolina. The topic of the teaching was, “Reaching and Growing Men for Christ”. Bro. Mel is Director of Men’s Ministry at Beach Road Baptist Church in Southport, NC. He also serves as coordinator of North Carolina Baptist Men’s Ministry/Outreach. He has previously taught this course of study in Honduras, Malaysia, Kenya, and Armenia.

Bro. Jose Hernandez is the pastor of Christ the King Baptist Church and also serves as Director of Hispanic Ministries and Missions of the Brunswick Baptist Association of North Carolina.
Teachers

The purpose of the training was “To help pastors to understand the strategic importance of establishing a balanced men’s ministry, specifically designed to reach and grow men for Christ”.  The major points of the study were:
  • Establish an authentic brotherhood of faithful Christian men in the churches
  • Incorporate proven ingredients of a vibrant, successful men’s ministry and outreach in the churches
  • Encourage faithful men to develop trusting relationships with lost men outside the church.
  • Evangelize lost men to salvation and into the church
  • Establish men to spiritual maturity and Biblical headship, plus overcome sinful temptations
  • Equip men for outreach and missions in the community
It was a very excellent study and was a tremendous encouragement to our pastors. After the conference the leadership of the association met and determined to begin a men's ministry in every BMDMI church. A national Men’s Ministry Director will be chosen and each of the 11 zones will have a regional Men’s Ministry Director. Plans are being made to call to accountability all churches in their men’s ministry. I am really excited about this! I believe that a successful men’s ministry can transform our churches and make them much stronger.

One of the highlights of the conference...
One of the highlights of the conference was the emotional testimony of Nelly Aguilar. You might remember that Nelly is a BMDMI employee that has been working as a church planter with her husband in the departments of Intibuca and Lempira. Nelly suffered from Guillon-Barre syndrome and was in the intensive care unit for about 10 weeks and was in the hospital for about 14 weeks. Nelly shared how that God comforted and strengthened her during her illness. As Nelly shared, there was not a dry eye in the house as all of us were moved by her powerful testimony of God’s grace, comfort, and provision.

The conference closed...
Carolyn Herrington The conference closed with a special recognition of our founder Carolyn Herrington. This too was such a stirring and joyful occasion. We will be sharing more about this in another newsletter.
Your faithful support allows us to continue to train pastors in Honduras and Nicaragua. It is becoming more and more difficult to fund the programs of the Bible Institute. For example the Mission bore the expenses of this conference which amounted to about to $40 per attendee. Expenses continue to rise and our support has dropped off, mostly due to the poor economic conditions in the States today. We will thank you for considering giving financial support for the Bible Institute or for increasing the support that you presently provide.
We truly thank you for your prayers and support. -Dwight Carr, BMDMI President
