...if we were safe through the tropical storm. We praise the Lord that we are fine. The storm brought substantial rainfall to our area, so the roads have been very muddy and very difficult to drive on. We have done a good bit of “sliding” around lately in the car. However, there have been some tragedies due to this rainfall. A friend of ours father passed away last week after slipping on a wet rock on his property. Others have lost all their crops of corn and beans, which is their means of survival.
Thursday night, we were hosting a Bible study for our youth group in our home when Rene received a phone call that our new neighbors were in trouble. Just a block away from our own house, our neighbor’s 2 month old house was flooded in waist-deep water from a sudden surge of the river that runs behind our houses. The youth boys were quick to jump in with Rene and help. We were so thankful for our truck that night too! As Rene and the youth boys would haul furniture out of the house and up the street that covered in water, they would load it in Rene’s truck to be taken to another destination. We are so proud of these young men’s attitudes to jump right in and tackle this very difficult task. We are also proud of the youth girls who are willing to help with the “clean-up” this weekend. Not only was their help impactful to this family, but the numerous people that stood around to observe the situation saw God’s church at work- denying ourselves, getting our feet (and pants) wet literally, and showing Christ love through means of meeting some immediate physical needs. Please pray for this family, as we seek to follow up with them in days to come and invite them to visit Transformacion church. Although they have lost all of their material possessions without the hope of housing insurance as we would have in the states, we long to share with them an eternal perspective. |
